FUTURE-READY LEARNING
Pennsylvania’s Department of Education has an ambitious set of goals—by 2025, the Keystone State plans to increase the number of pre-k–12 teaching candidates enrolled in preparatory programs, as well as reduce the percentage of teaching shortages in struggling school systems. The state’s Educator Workforce Strategy hinges on its ability to engage young, aspiring educators early in their academic careers, especially when it comes to STEM and STEAM subjects. This initiative puts particular focus on supporting demographics who have historically experienced barriers to entry in these fields, such as young people of color.
To ensure that Pennsylvania schools can graduate career-ready young people—especially those who want to teach—educators need tools that ignite curiosity and an early passion for learning. With built-in teacher support and a standards-aligned curriculum that instills real-world skills, SmartLab Learning Solutions can help Pennsylvania educators inspire the next generation of school leaders.
STEM LEARNING IN PENNSYLVANIA
When it comes to specific academic goals, Pennsylvania is looking to STEM and STEAM to help prepare its future workforce. As part of Gov. Tom Wolf’s statewide priorities, he has invested $116 million in science, computer science, and technical education programs, plus an additional $36 million in career technical education (CTE) for recent or soon-to-be high school graduates.
