A Sneak Peek into Our Online Conference
We know that this summer, many of you will be moving from emergency remote learning to high-quality online learning and we’re here to help with that transition.
If you’ve been reading our Friday blogs, you know we’re excited for our upcoming 1-day online conference. While we always provide professional development to support personalized, student-directed, project-based learning, we’ve designed this conference to help you provide this kind of experience in digital and blended learning models.
We asked our presenters from around the country to share their experiences and successes around SmartLab Learning and how that works in the digital space. Read on to get a sneak peek of some of the sessions.
SmartLabs Across the District: Supporting and Aligning SmartLab Learning
by Rose Pixley, Director of Teaching and Learning, Jenks Public Schools, OK
“I’ll plan on sharing our journey to promote STEM learning for all students. I will share information on our district’s why along with how CLS’s support and flexibility made our program come to life. I’ll also share a bit about what we considered when we began building our elementary through secondary articulation.”
Innovation Academy: Live Panel
by Marcus Diamond, High School SmartLab Facilitator, Weld High School, CO
“Challenging high school students in STEM often goes beyond the lab and the curriculum itself. Meet several students as they talk about the project they started this past school year and what they learned about STEM as they chose their career path.”
Flipping Your SmartLab
by Jessica Tarkanian, Elementary SmartLab Facilitator and Katie Blechle, Innovation and Technology Coach, Wilder Elementary School, CO
“Wanting to take your Smartlab beyond the structure of a yearly Instructional Score? Instead of starting with the tools to create a project, students start with a shared problem. The Smartlab evolves into a makerspace and laboratory for budding engineers.
–Teach students to plan and execute their own projects based on engineering practices and real-world problems.
–Use current events and engineering disciplines to create lessons for students K–6.
–Give students design templates to help take them through the engineering design process.
–Teach students to be more agile problem solvers using Scrum framework.”
Using the TPACK Framework to Facilitate SmartLab Learning
by Penelope Moody, Curriculum Writer, Creative Learning Systems, CO
“Learn what components make our curriculum successful and how you can build your own Learning Launchers to support your students’ needs. We’ll also talk about important components at each grade band as well as documentation of student work and how to support classroom learning. “
New Facilitator Orientation: Learn From the Pros
by Rick Knotts, SmartLab Facilitator, Prince of Peace School, TX
“You’ve been identified as your school’s SmartLab Facilitator. You have just been given the keys to your lab. You have all the supplies and the code to the Launchpad. Now what? This webinar will give suggestions and share with participants what I learned in my first year as a facilitator.”
