Learning Opportunities for the Summer

Written by Haley Ruman

For most of you, this summer will be unlike any other you’ve experienced. Most educators begin their summer knowing their future teaching assignments, when school will start, and the general schedule for the school day.

This summer, all of that is up in the air.

For the first time, many of you are asking questions like:

  • When will the school year begin?
  • What will the instructional day look like?
  • How will I sanitize all of the materials in my classroom?
  • Will I see my students face-to-face or through a computer screen?
  • How do I keep students engaged and motivated to learn in this altered learning environment?

Although I can’t answer all of these questions, I can help you prepare for the upcoming school year.

Moving from Emergency Learning to Remote Learning

When schools began closing several months ago, teachers scrambled into “emergency remote teaching.” With that experience fresh in mind, you’ll inevitably spend time this summer preparing for the possibility that online instruction may resume this fall.

I’ve been watching the education community pondering how to ensure the health and safety of students and educators, while continuing student engagement and learning.

Professional Development for Remote Learning

At Creative Learning Systems, we want to help you with that transition, so we’re excited to offer an online conference that covers:

  • Best practices of digital learning
  • Structures and strategies that best support student-directed learning
  • Strategies to support remote project-based learning

Additionally, this 1-day, online conference will allow you to collaborate with educators across the country. If you’re interested in gaining new skills while earning some much-needed professional development, join us.

  • WHEN: June 23rd, 10:00 am–6:00 pm (EDT)
  • WHO: SmartLab Facilitators and supporting educators (administrators, classroom teachers, curriculum coaches, and STEM directors), educators who have used our digital learning curriculum, or educators who are keen on gaining new skills
  • WHAT: 19 live sessions and a collection of pre-recorded sessions; session recordings will be accessible through August 31, 2020
    • Educators can earn professional development hours by attending sessions and completing reflection requirements. All session reflections must be completed by July 3 to receive credit. Certificates will be provided to participants by August 3, 2020.

To learn more about the presenters and sessions for this 1-day online conference, visit our event webpage.

I look forward to “seeing” you in June as we work together to prepare for the next school year. Now’s the time to transition from emergency remote teaching to high quality, online instruction.
