Apollo 13 hero, Gene Krantz, delivered the keynote address as Texas City Independent School District announced plans for a new SmartLab HQ at Blocker Middle School.

Valero Energy Corporation provided funding for the new STEM lab.

The active involvement and support of area businesses and professionals with Texas City schools is model for community involvement in public schools.
