What’s inside a SmartLab?
There are many parts to each SmartLab and some are customized just for you.
Peninsula Tables
Tables against a wall are called Peninsula Tables. They are collaborative workstations that support 6 students working in 3 groups. Underneath the table are power strips that students can utilize to plug in their electronics.
SmartLab Learning Process
The SmartLab Learning Process is an action-driven, repeatable process where students EXPLORE a piece of technology, PLAN the project, DO the project, REFLECT on progress, and SHARE and celebrate their learning.
Pylons
Pylons are located in the middle of the Islands and deliver data and electricity. Pylons have outlets and USB ports that allow students to connect or charge electronics at their stations.
Standalone Technology
Standalone technology pieces include a Dremel 3D printer, a Green SmartPad Zone that has 3 fully configured iPads with different apps, and a Color Laser Printer.
Large Display
Each SmartLab includes a large classroom display or Smartboard that can be used for facilitator demonstrations or group presentations.
Kit and Equipment Shelves
Custom shelving makes it easy for students to gather and store project supplies. Open shelves provide storage for work in progress or space to display completed projects.
Facilitator Workspace
This dedicated workspace gives the SmartLab Facilitator resources and tools to manage the technology in the lab. A Mac or PC serves as the primary computer.
CNC/Laser Engraver
A CNC or Laser Engraver are optional and may be located in your SmartLab.
Scope & Sequence Posters
Scope and Sequence posters provide a recommended ordering of SmartLab projects. They are color coded with 8 Areas of Exploration to ensure that students get a breadth of exposure to various technologies.
