Empower Students with Innovative STEM + CTE Solutions for Your District

SmartLab helps students go beyond content mastery. By solving real-world problems with authentic tools and collaborating with purpose, they build skills—and the confidence—to see themselves in future careers. That’s where STEM identity takes root.

See students bring it to life.

Four programs. One powerful framework.

SmartLab Learning Programs include Spark, Explorer, Pathfinder, and Studio. Each is grounded in SmartLab’s five-part framework—curriculum, tools, learning environment, educator support, and sustainability—but structured for different goals. Spark, Explorer, and Pathfinder provide hands-on STEM curriculum built around hands-on, career-connected projects. Studio is a flexible program that gives schools access to the same tools and technology, with educator training and implementation tailored locally.

Explorer introduces STEM tools through flexible, interdisciplinary challenges that connect classroom learning to the world around them. A unit might ask students to design an accessible playground, test wind-powered vehicles, or engineer water filters.

Pathfinder prepares students for CTE pathways by deepening their technical fluency, problem-solving skills, and career awareness. Students explore urban planning, biomedical engineering, or smart agriculture—building both expertise and purpose.

Spark invites students to follow their curiosity while building foundational fluency with STEM tools, systems, and ideas. A student might prototype a musical instrument, design a simple machine, or model a water cycle with coding tools.

Studio offers advanced STEM tools and training to support student exploration. Without a formal curriculum, facilitators integrate these tools into instruction based on local goals, student needs, and educator strengths.

SMARTLAB LEARNING PROGRAMS

Learning is
different here.

In SmartLab programs, students don’t just receive knowledge. They use it.

As educators in the video explain, play and exploration aren’t side activities; they’re essential to how students build skill, identity, and confidence. When students have the space to test ideas, take risks, and create solutions, they start to believe their ideas matter. That’s when engagement becomes purpose.

Marcus Diamond

“The SmartLab has opened a whole new way of learning and developing career paths for our high school students. We have been able to open them up to new career ideas that many have never considered or even knew existed. In our lab the students have become licensed drone pilots who are working in the field, are coding their own apps to solve equations, have developed websites for outside businesses, and have decided to go to college for engineering in various fields. The kids in our lab are truly making life decisions about their future careers.”

Mark Weerts

“The student experience in our SmartLab has positively transformed our school’s learning culture. Students become empowered and engaged as they apply content standards through the skills of critical thinking, curiosity, and collaboration. I have yet to meet one student who doesn’t love this class nor benefit from the connected learning approach.”

Brian Ewert

“Education isn’t about just filling your head with facts. It’s about taking knowledge and doing something novel with it. So once the students have that experience [in the SmartLab], they start to see that what they’re learning about is bigger than just a fact or concept. Learning is no longer a job; it becomes this adventure.”

Erica Zwilling

“Even driven middle schoolers realize they have a place where they can explore, problem-solve, and test things without worrying whether their project will work in the end—that is an ‘ah HA moment.’”
