About the Report
In 2023, PEAR (Partnerships in Education and Resilience) conducted a comprehensive evaluation of MidAmerica’s in-school STEM labs. Data from 610 students in grades 4–12 and nine educators revealed significant gains in all ten measured STEM and 21st-century skills—especially in STEM career interest and career knowledge.

Key Findings:

  • Stronger Career Awareness: Students reported the greatest growth in STEM career knowledge, a key predictor of pursuing STEM pathways after graduation.
  • Critical Skills for the Future: Labs fostered critical thinking, perseverance, and strong relationships with peers and adults.
  • Educator Confidence: Teachers reported high comfort, confidence, and capability in delivering hands-on STEM experiences.
